I’ve been thinking a little about how I can take in more information from the non-fiction books I read. The first tip I’m going to try is The Blank Sheet Method. The second thing that I’ve discovered is the excellent scanning/OCR feature of the Notes.app. It’s not 100% perfect, but honestly I can deal with... www.kaa.bz

@kaa this sounds cool! I had never heard of the blank sheet method before but I like the premise! I see there is an OCR plugin for obsidian as well, which sounds promising!

@herself @kaa Here’s a method I’ve been trying. As I read, I index (in a notebook) the points that matter to me, with page numbers. At the end of the day, I open Voice Memos on my phone and read in the index, including additional thoughts that occur to me as I flip through the book again. The audio file goes right into Obsidian with the index, or Drafts can do a rough transcript of the audio and I paste that into Obsidian.

@leeS sorry to reply so late! This seems interesting! Do you find having the audio makes it easier?

@herself Yes, the audio is a big plus for me because I can speak off the cuff and I don’t have to go looking for a pencil. I can also read sections back to myself that I like. The only time it doesn’t work well is late at night when my wife is asleep and I’m trying to whisper into the phone. :)
