@help I would like to login to my micro.blog account from a network that blocks access to all external email. How do I do that?
@khurtwilliams Sorry, there's not really a way to access it without email, except on iOS where you can use Sign in with Apple.
@khurtwilliams There are ways you could work around that. Temporarily connect your device to another network while signing in (like your smartphone's hotspot). Use a VPN. Manually copy the sign-in link from another device (with access to your email). Forward the sign-in mail to an internal inbox that you can access from the locked down network.
But, of course, the best solution is to leave that network and never ever return to it. It sounds like a horrible situation.
@sod, leaving is not an option unless I change my profession. Like most IT people in New Jersey, I work in financial services, pharmaceutical, healthcare or tech. While using their network, they block access to anything (social media, email, online storage, etc.) that can lead to data exfiltration or is a vector for attack. micro.blog is not blocked. However, because I can't access personal email from the company network, I can not click the link that micro.blog sends via email. I am stuck using micro.blog from my iPhone's tiny screen and keyboard. I prefer the web interface. I think micro.blog needs a typical multi-factor login system.
@khurtwilliams Ah, I see, I've been in similar situations myself with a handful of clients. Can't see how they can prevent you from using one of my workarounds, though. Is your smartphone allowed on premise? Just initiate sign-in there and manually type the sign-in URL into your work computer. No personal devices allowed at the office? Start the sign-in process before you enter the building and write the URL down on a piece of paper or your arm, then type it in when you're at your desk.
@sod micro.blog requires that I open the link from the same computer with the browser requesting access. I’m requesting access from the work computer on the work network. The work computer has zero internet access when not on the company network even via VPN. It’s locked down. No Bluetooth. No USB.

But I’m not trying to access micro.blog from my smartphone. I’m trying to access micro.blog from the work computer.
@sod try it. Initiate the login from a computer where you can read the email with the link.

@sod ah. I found a string of 20 characters for the auth code that I can type in. That might work. A username/password + optional second factor token would be easier for users.
@khurtwilliams I've done this before but verified again just now. Initiated sign-in on my iPhone using Safari on a 4G connection. Opened my email client on the same device and long-tapped the Sign in to Micro.blog link to get a preview of the URL. Then I manually typed that URL into Firefox on my Mac (hooked up to another network). Worked like a charm. 😊
