I downloaded the Orion browser from Kagi. So far, I’m not really impressed. It’s… fine, but it doesn’t do anything much different, and some muscle-memory things (like double-clicking the tab to get the URL) don’t work or work differently. Meh.

@jtr of course, your mileage may vary and there’s a lot of personal choice in browsers. but I’ll share a couple of things I really like about Orion (on the Mac, the IOS/iPadOS versions are pretty underwhelming):
I came to Orion a few months ago as Arc’s development dead-end started becoming clearer
@7robots Much appreciated! I want to know what I’m not considering. I just started to use the vertical tabs (I still don’t like how they look visually on the left, wish I could collapse them dynamically like you can in Edge). Did you find issues with extensions from Firefox/Chrome?
@jtr I’ve been pretty conservative with my use of extensions. I’ve been using the Obsidian extension without issue. I tried the Apple Passwords extension and found it to be a bit cantankerous, but workable. In both cases, the extensions were directly developed by the parent company whose products I wanted to integrate with.
What really surprised me is that the extensions worked on both MacOS and on the IOS build of Orion.
For my own use, I have found that I actually prefer my vertical tabs NOT collapsing. I leave them open vertically. This has done a few things for me: I can see more tabs, I’m more likely to re-use tabs (reducing tab sprawl), and the vertical view acts like a weird (but useful) hybrid between a tab view and a favorites view.
@7robots thanks, I understand what you mean with the tabs… I don’t know the fact that it’s just a wide strip of gray and not much else (at least when I start) is distracting. I know I can do the dynamic tabs like Safari, but I do want to use them more.
I installed privacy badge and uorigin just to see how they work though I don’t don’t use the Mac as my privacy machine anyway.
