The latest update to Micro Social adds location check-ins for Micro.blog. Very interesting! There’s so much potential here that we haven’t had time to follow through on, so great to see another app pick up the slack.
@manton I remember I was playing with it with the foss alternative to Swarm (forget the name) and asked about it in the forms – does this means we can add location with the official iOS app and I missed it somehow?
@manton This is a great idea. WordPress for iOS once had a feature to geotag posts, which would store the lat/long in custom fields. I would use those in a call to the Google Places API to get the actual place name. It was really neat… until they removed the geotag feature. 😢 This looks much easier!
@jtr Nope, you didn’t miss it. We have location support in the API but no actual UI for setting it yet! Until Micro Social.
@rscottjones They sort of haven’t been a thing until now. The plumbing is there but it has required custom apps and themes.
@manton glad it has it! Checking in has been this itch I wanted to scratch for a while, is this hard to implement in the official app? It’s good to have options though.
@jtr Not hard exactly, just I always thought we would build something for this outside of the main app. I’ll have to revisit it now that there is some active support for locations.
