Interesting juxtaposition of releases today… The new Ivory with Mastodon hashtags support and the Threads update with hashtags for the first time, limited to one tag per post. Also major Mammoth release, with open source on the way.

@manton I like how Threads has incorporated Tags, especially by limiting it to one per post. Also, that it displays without the # and is part of the post, much like a hyperlink.
@manton thanks for the shout out. I’m on team Mammoth and we’re having an absolute blast showing everyone what we’ve built. So much great new stuff across the web today. 🎉
@pratik As you know I prefer zero tags, but I can get behind a single tag instead of a half dozen. Mastodon posts often look like hashtag spam when they’re overdone.
@manton Agree and I too hate hashtag spam. The limiting to one got me thinking about them in terms of categories. Since Micro.blog already has category support and there is quite a bit of overlap between people’s categories, perhaps that could be leveraged. Maybe that improves discoverability on Micro.blog too. Of course, this will be available only to Mb users. Or perhaps the tag is crossposted to Mastodon with a # and posts from Mastodon continue to be stripped of their hashtags as you do now.
