Listed an item on Facebook Marketplace for the first time last week. May not do this again, it’s a lot to manage messages from dozens of people. Perhaps worse for something free because there’s no commitment, no follow-through. Kind of interesting view into Meta’s business, though.

@manton I’ve used it a number of times and it’s mostly people who will try to bargain you down to nothing, and others who say they’re interested yet never follow up.

But I’ve also gotten rid of almost everything I put up on it, so it works but it requires a lot of patience with those types.

@joecab I’ll keep that in mind. I don’t think I gave it enough time, since I was in a bit of a hurry.

@manton I’ve had the same experience with some things as well. Although, I’ve probably sold 5-6 things on there, some for as low as $50. Was worth it to get “something” rather than nothing for stuff I’d have just thrown out. One was a bike for a 7-8 yr old. Actually made me feel good to know it was going to a family that was very happy to get a very lightly used bike at a great price. I just wanted it gone. win win

@adrianizq That is exactly why I chose to go this route too, wanting to find a good home for something that I’d feel bad just throwing out.

@manton I won’t use any meta property so I still use craigslist. Still humming along with the exact same website design. :-)

@manton yeah - would not recommend listing for free. Much better to ask for a nominal amount and then not accept any money when they come to collect!
