@maique I think it will be good for my favourite sticker spotter in the long run. I'm waiting for my pay day to get Scribbles subscription. I usually try and wait at least 5 days before making a decision.
@maique I saw your post on the pricing and looks tempting. I'm not sure tho what I should write or post there. I'm trying to keep everything in one place.
@maique How's the photo handling there? Still not happy with how Mb handles photos. Last week, a reader noticed which is even worse.
@pratik Seems nice, feel free to check it out: stickerspotter.com. Vincent was doing some tweaking a while back, and I believe they're fine. No lightbox, but it's good.
@maique any shortcuts to post? Themes available for a masonry/grid layout? The About link goes to weblog.lol. Deliberate?
@pratik No shortcuts (and no API), no grid. Nope. Very basic, very opinionated. About goes to omg.lol, yes, where I'm linking email/mastodon/archive.
@pratik It means @vincent is calling the shots and, even though he's open to feature requests, and small tweaks to the platform, it will never be the Swiss Army knife of blogging. It is what it is, it looks as it looks, it works as it works. You cannot twist it to fit you all that much. If it works for you, good. If it does not, it probably never will.
@lucas @maique Definitely agree. It's a great product and very polished UI. It's definitely anyone that needs basic blogging and wants to focus purely on writing and not so much on tinkering should look at first. I may not use it either for the same reasons you mention.
However, the 'opinionated' part is not how I think of @vincent though. He comes across as very amenable to adding features in his products and I say that as a compliment. He's very responsive and quick to do so too. But sometimes, I am tempted to tell Vincent, you don't have to say yes to every feature. Maybe he's doing it that way with Scribbles and I'm gonna keep my eye on it.
In fact, I would consider @manton 'opinionated' (again as a compliment) coz he will push back on requests to add more features or even tweak them. Someone who quit Micro.blog said, "Manton designs Micro.blog like how he wants to use it" and I was thinking, well, duh! I am known in Micro.blog circles to keep asking to tweak and add features but I like how Manton pushes back to keep his vision consistent. I just wish he sometimes make it explicit in writing in the mission statement or somewhere but guess, he's too nice to say that 🙃
@manton Which I fully agree and I think you strike the right balance but perhaps don't say much coz you don't want to offend people 🙃 Nevertheless people, including me, will continue to push and it's up to you to decide when to give in and when not to. The temptation to give in can be strong, though. @lucas @maique @vincent
@pratik Vincent is also stripping color spaces and struggling to deal with how to manage that. It's absolutely not better, and we get fucked on this because of the decision to try and wipe EXIF.
@jsonbecker Oh is that why they’re doing it? To strip EXIF info? Can’t you remove just location data instead of everything? I assume that’s the reason they’re doing it.
@pratik almost all easy native things just get rid of it all.
@jsonbecker yeah, colour space and profiles get wiped because there is just one universal “strip”. I wrote about it today because I’m trying to find the right balance. I tried going through my CDN but they also just strip everything. Cc @pratik
