I love these robots. We’ve seen more of them but it’s not clear if they are actually going anywhere or just practicing for deliveries.

@manton They have those for deliveries on campus at Oregon State U. My kid says that they are smart enough to wait for walk signals at crosswalks but can't press the button themselves, so you'll often come upon two or three waiting to cross the road until a human comes along to push the walk button.

@manton Cute, but not sure how good of a solution to a problem they are

(I want a cargo hyper loop / pneumatic tube system for everything but the very last mile)

@darrenhester Honestly when I see one I just laugh. Maybe it will get old eventually.

@manton Yeah, From regional warehouses to local shops and collection boxes, utilizing the years of network development technology in computer networks to efficiently route physical packages from A to B

@manton Slightly different robots, but last year I was at a restaurant (in a converted residential house) at a tourist town out in the country and they had these robot waiters delivering food to tables... it just felt so random, absolutely not the place I expected to see one of those things "out in the wild". That said, even though the novelty was fun, it was absolutely not up to a standard to replace human waiters 🤪

@jayeless They have something like that at Kura, a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. The drinks are delivered by robots. It's a fun novelty but also kind of works for drinks.
