Went to the early IMAX screening for Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron tonight. Managed to avoid seeing any trailer, plot summary, or review, so everything was a surprise. Still thinking about it so won’t say more for now. Subtitled, and I’d like to see the dubbed version later. 🍿

@manton I would like to see this, though do not know what my options will be all the way out here?

@manton I spoke too soon. It is arriving on Maui this weekend. Not IMAX, but still, it will be here.

@crossingthethreshold Not sure, hopefully they're planning a fairly widespread distribution. Pretty sizable crowd for this showing but not sold out.

@crossingthethreshold Cool. There wasn't anything special with IMAX for this, unlike the Oppenheimer release. Just a big screen.

@manton I watched Red Turtle some years ago. I won’t say anything about the plot, but I did have to fight back tears so I didn’t sob in front of my kids. 😀

@manton you prefer dubbed?

I accidentally started watching a movie the other day and thought “gah, what is wrong with this movie??”. Turned out it was a dubbed French film.

I found the out-of-sync voice horribly distracting and I was relieved to flip over to French and subtitles.

Just a personal preference of course. I can imagine others hating flicking back and forth to the text.

@ianjs I don't feel strongly about subtitled vs. dubbed. But the dub seems like a good cast so I'm curious if it changes anything about the film.
