@jemostrom my usage waxes and wanes. I use it mostly to capture ideas when browsing. My main problem is that I process stuff on my Mac so there’s friction in taking stuff out of drafts. @agiletortoise recently announced he’s working on a Mac app. Made my day.

@jemostrom I write everything in drafts first because I often don't know if or what I want to do with it

@jemostrom Everything for me starts in Drafts, except shopping lists - they go in Notes.

Having one app as a starting point solves the problem of “where does this go?” It also solves the “what is this going to be?” question.

I never tweeted from Drafts, so I can understand your point there, but I write virtually everything on my phone so having a place where things can begin and be moved on once they take shape is handy.

And now that I can post straight to WordPress using Drafts 5 thanks to its enhanced scripting it’s even better.

But it’s not for everyone so don’t feel you should.

@jemostrom Same here. I’ve been on a mission to simplify when it makes sense and have deleted apps I don’t use. As of now I prefer Notes over Drafts because I can also add other content to Notes: images, pdfs, scans, etc. as a one-stop starting point it makes more sense for me.

@seishonagon Indeed it is. But a very solid beta.

@jemostrom I don't like writing on my phone much, when I do I mostly use drafts. Action to grab a webpage url & title & the selection is great. Various simple actions append to particular txt in dropbox. Tweet when I want to think. Post to my blog via workflow ♥ drafts

@jemostrom Answering your question inspired a slightly longer post:

@ciaran I capture most things these days in Bear notes. I like the wiki link aspect very much. Drafts looks cool but it'd be extraneous unfortunately!

@herself It's all about what works for you. Most of my "notes" end up in Ulysses in one way or another. But tasks go to OmniFocus, appointments need to go to calendars (via Fantastical), contact information goes to Contacts (sometimes via Interact or Pythonista), and timekeeping information goes both to a .csv file in Dropbox and an email to my assistant.

@colinwalker when you write on your phone, do use an external keyboard or the screen keyboard?

(I find using the screen keyboard slow and cumbersome but that's me after 35 years of typing on keyboards ... my daughter seem perfectly happy to write long documents using the screen keyboard on her phone)

@jemostrom Almost always the on screen keyboard, have done for years.

@Denny Yeah, I've switched from using Evernote to Notes when sharing notes with some other people (read family members) and Bear for my own notes. Thanks for your answer.

@ciaran Hmmm, it could be that I handle things differently. I get most information via email and web pages - emails are moved to a couple of mailboxes (to do, reference, etc) and processed later. Web pages are sent to Pocket and processed later (or just forgotten 😉). When I come up with some idea I usually make a task/reminder in OF/Reminders. Meeting notes ... well, I'm bad at taking notes.

I do hope you write about Drafts, I want to learn how people use it and perhaps get some inspiration.

@seishonagon Hmm, this is what I use Bear for (among other things) - perhaps Bear is my Drafts. Thanks for answering.

@colinwalker I'm quite impressed ... I'm slowly getting used to type on an iPad keyboard.

@mdhughes @hjertnes @johnjohnston @colinwalker @denny I appreciate your answers, it gives me some new points of views. I've always been bad at note taking, keeping lists, etc but I'm currently forced to review my ways of doing things so it's interesting to read about how different people do different things and what I can change/improve.

(I just before pressing "post" I realized that I use BBEdit the same way as some of you use Drafts 😏)
