Fox News in the, uhm, news today reminds me of last month when I was in Dallas. I worked from a coffee shop near my hotel one morning, Flying Horse Cafe. They had Fox News on the TV. Took me by surprise as an Austinite… No way you’d ever see that here, but oh yeah, I live in Texas.

@manton As a Missourian I feel that pain. Pretty common "news" channel around here. :(

@manton anytime I have the misfortune of witnessing Fox News. I feel like someone has slipped some acid into my coffee.

@manton I think the increasing presence of even more unhinged media has convinced some folks that Fox is a nice mainstream channel that you can show in your business just like CNN or something.

The place where I take my car has it on in the waiting room sometimes. (I'd characterize my area as bluish-purple: popularly more left than right, but punctuated by a handful of unignorable far-right types and over-representation of Republicans in the local government.)

@manton it's everywhere in the midwest (Iowa). FoxNews has always been assumed to be one of the reputable "normal" news channels here ever since it launched so it's all over the place.

@manton It doesn’t happen often, but I’ve seen it played in public even here in deep-blue Los Angeles.

@manton I think Austin and Norman are the West Berlins of their respective states.

@bigzaphod @manton It's on at bars and restaurants all the time. I remember going out to a HyVee dining room with my elderly New Horizons band members and it was on every single week for Tucker.
