Slack can sometimes be overwhelming. I make it work by limiting myself to about 3 channels in the Mac and iOS apps. Others can be viewed on the web as needed. Also, I mute almost everything, even channels I care about. The only flaw is that @here bypasses mutes, which I don’t think it should.

@manton I can’t tell you how often I was the guy telling folks, “you really shouldn’t use ‘all’, because it’s like ‘here’ but even pings offline folks.”

Those two are powerful and useful but need guide rails for sure!

@manton I wish I could disable at-here notifications entirely. I understand them in the context of a company Slack, but in other Slacks they are just obnoxious.

@manton the two tools I hate the most are the ones I have to spend most of my time using: Slack and JIRA.
