ClassicPress.net has a plugin to convert a WprdPress install to ClassicPress. I’m not sure all the #Indieweb plugins will be compatible with ClassicPress. Is it worth the sacrifice? Anyone done this?

@joejenett It came up on my radar back when they forked, then I forgot about it. I think I was waiting to see if they survived. It looks pretty good for basic blogging stuff.

@bradenslen I am considering a switch given all of the changes at WordPress. Don’t have the bandwidth now but possibly in a few months…

@fgtech @joejenett I figure the time to experiment for me is now since I have a new WP install with very little content. I've been hesitating on some new projects because I didn't trust WordPress's direction. If this plugin that converts Wordpress to ClassicPress works then it is the solution to that problem.

The site I'm thinking of converting, currently has all the Indieweb plugins installed but they are untested. I'm told the theme maybe/sorta works with Indieweb. Anyway, while it would be nice to have Indieweb things working, it is an extra, not a core requirement in my mind. So if they don't work I can live with that.

I'm going to do a little more investigation on this conversion stuff before I try.

@joejenett @fgtech And it worked flawlessly. CP is much leaner than WP and it feels snappy. You still have access to the WP plugin directory only now each WP plugin is plainly marked if it it incompatible with CP. Plus CP has it's own plugins. All Indieweb plugins reactivated and not showing any problems.

@bradenslen @joejenett Good on ya! I've used ClassicPress awhile ago on one of my installs, it worked fine and was snappy. It was also a nice relief to be able to write posts the old way without having to dance around Gutenberg editor w/o needing a plugin to turn it off.

@alongtheray @joejenett It is very snappy compared to WP. Using Antispam Bee again to stop comment spam. Been using it since 2018 on other site and it rocks. Trying to stay away from Jetpak and Akismet. Matomo Analytics plugin works.

I'm pleased with ClassicPress. Thanks.
