Talking with @joec earlier this week about finding new coffee shops in new cities… Here’s the list for the week in Colorado: Inkwell & Brew, Novo Coffee, Aviano Coffee, Train Cars Coffee (photo), Atlas Coffees (photo), Corvus Coffee Roasters, Sonder Coffee & Tea, and Jubilee Roasting Co.

@manton @joec my rule of thumb, not 100% but fairly reliable, is that coffee shops with smaller, more focused menus (of drinks and otherwise) are more often than not going to be pretty solid. There are occasional exceptions, but it often shows an ability to self-edit and focus on getting a few things right over trying to be everything to everyone.

(this often also holds true for newer restaurants - a small, focused, edited menu is frequently a sign that the food will be pretty good)

@manton there’s sort of an app for that?

apps.apple.com/us/app/so...

I would have expected to find at least one app on the App Store that crowd sources good indie coffee places, but found dozens of silly games instead.

@jimmitchell That's cool, I'll check that out. I usually use Foursquare to get a general idea of what's good.

@jimmitchell I wanted to make a crowd sourced web site for good coffee shops at one point. The focus was not about quality of coffee (I make better coffee at home than most places, frankly) but rather quality of work space. Good WiFi. Open seats most days. Not too noisy. Outlets, etc. Never got around to building it.

I still have the domain: publicworking.com.

@joec That's interesting. I think amenities like those would play into a crowd sourced rating system. What kept you from pursuing the idea?

@jimmitchell I wasn’t super excited about becoming a web developer, to be honest. It’s an idea that would be infinitely more successful as a web site rather than an app. But I greatly prefer making apps.
