From Matt Mullenweg’s talk at WordCamp Canada:

Day One is a fully encrypted synchronized blogging and journaling app, that runs on every device and the web, and you can have shared journals with others. It’s the first place I go to draft an idea, or for example, to write this talk.

This was a little surprising to me. In a way, it matches the workflow I sometimes use in Micro.blog. I use our private, encrypted notes feature to jot down ideas or write a draft, then move it into a blog post. But most of the time I just start right with a draft post.

@manton Since when was Day One a blogging app/ service? 🤷‍♂️

@thisness Right, I don’t think of it that way. But I can see how journaling could be part of a blogging workflow.

@manton Day One is an awesome platform. i’ve often thought about using it for just about everything including notes.

@thisness I assume he’s not referring to the web publishing piece that used to be available. but nothing preventing using it as an editor for posts. its odd to me they don’t have WordPress integration at this point given how long they’ve owned Day One. @manton

@jkratz @manton Indeed. Yes that’s true. I was was pondering the lack of WP integration the other day at the same time as thinking ‘whatever happened to Simplenote?!’ I still use it. What ain’t broke don’t need fixing I guess 🤷‍♂️

@jkratz @thisness That is strange. Seems like a no-brainer to integrate Day One publishing and WordPress. Even Micro.blog has Day One export in the Mac app. 🙂

@manton I didn’t realize Automattic had bought Day One.

@jkratz the lack of basic integration of Automattic tools is a huge missed opportunity. I keep asking them about it and get crickets.

@writingslowly but judging by Matt’s talk, they have a lot of integration/updating work to do. Tumblr upgrade must be massive

@writingslowly yeah I think at this point if it hasn’t happened it’s not going to happen given how long they’ve owned Day One. Tumblr is another example. Mullenweg says in that interview they need to get it on the WordPress infrastructure but its a “heavy lift”. They’ve owned Tumblr a long time now too, it can’t be that heavy a lift.

@jkratz yeah, let’s not hold our breath. But it’s a little encouraging that MM is actually talking about it
