NaNoWriMo, Day 13: jayeless.net
@jayeless I ran out of outline, so I decided to take yesterday off prose words and prep some more! Feels so much better when I write from an outline.
@tracydurnell Very good idea, I reckon! An outline is critical. Trying to write without one feels like being lost in the wilderness without a map – I end up with NFI what I’m doing 😂
@jayeless @tracydurnell I work from detailed outlines for my work pieces. So for nano, l opted to try my hand at what I’ve seen called “pantsing,” or writing by the seat of your pants. I did months of background research, ending up with so many pages of notes and yes, outlines, I was frozen. So l archived everything, created a single page outline and new character studies, and waited for Nov. 1. Fingers crossed, it’s going well so far…
@jessekelber That’s great! 😃 It’s definitely true that everyone has a different process that works for them. I’ve tried pantsing before, but I just don’t seem to have the focus for that to result in a coherent story for me 😆
@jayeless why do you think I outline my work articles so thoroughly?! 🤕
@jessekelber 👏 I’m glad it’s going well! I can definitely see getting overwhelmed by doing too much worldbuilding and planning, and building up something of a “to do list” that could make the writing feel daunting instead of fun. It also makes sense that you might like to try a different approach than you take for work 😉
