Increasingly frustrated when people complain about Twitter but wait for it to improve or for something better to come along. It doesn’t work like that. There’s no switch to flip. There is only the steady growth of indie microblogs, improving the web over years.

@manton That's a good reason to try to use this a bit more. ;)

@manton I do! It's simple. That's awesome.

@manton Same here! I can’t even count the number of podcast episodes that I’ve listened to that has spent a big chunk of its running time complaining about Twitter yet still in the final “where can people find you” segment the hosts always give their twitter handle as contact information.

It actually makes me genuinely angry from time to time.

@MrHenko That's a great example.

@MrHenko But that’s marketing. Which is just about the only thing worth using T or FB for. I can announce something there and even if the response rate is infinitesimal, I am reaching so many people that I might get some interest. Here, not so much.

And that’s the way I like it. The network effect becomes its own demise.

@jeremycherfas You can add Instagram to that category, too. There are aspects of that platform I still like, but it’s become flooded by ads & other mediocre-at-best unsolicited “content” that hollows out the timeline.

@schuth You’re right, of course. But since I discovered Instagram-atom.appspot.com I get an ad-free, chronological feed of my friend’s photos - as it should be. I’d pay IG for that, but they don’t want my money.

@jeremycherfas Well look at that! Thanks, this could save my relationship with Instagram.

@jack It did mine, that I know. Also good for Twitter lists and such.

@schuth The only gotcha is that you have to reauthorise every three months. Perfect use for a reminder. I like that I can zip through on my reader and if I want to like something it is one click and a tab away.

@jeremycherfas I hadn’t heard about that service but it sounds like exactly what I want and need for Instagram. Thanks!
