What podcast app is everyone using on iOS? I’ve used Overcast for years, but last year’s redesign has brought a fair amount of frustration for me.. I’ve always loved Castro’s design, but it hasn’t been updated in a year.

What else should I be looking at?

@craigmcclellan You might like Airshow from Feedbin. Nice design. I used it for a while but went back to Overcast. ĀÆ_(惄)_/ĀÆ? apps.apple.com/us/app/ai…

@craigmcclellan been hooked on Castro for a long time and still works well for me. The queue feature has always worked so well for me. But I’ll be watching this thread to see if I should be open to trying others.

@craigmcclellan I’m using Pocket Casts on Android (available on ios as well) and I like this app. The autodownload new espisode features work well. If I did have ios I might look at Airr because it has a feature to save ā€œnotesā€ while listening and sync these with Readwise. Snipd might be another with this feature but I don’t know which is better.

@craigmcclellan I've recently been using Pocket Casts, mostly because it's crossplatform. The app has improved quite a bit in recent months and is open source. Folders and playlists give quite a few options for sorting.

@craigmcclellan Update: It looks like Overcast may have fixed one of my complaints, and I didn’t even realize. Going to see how that goes for the next few days.

@craigmcclellan I still use overcast but I also use Snipd to save parts of a podcast for later. It’s a pretty good player with nice features. There’s a feed for podcast Snips like tiktok to swipe through

@craigmcclellan which complaint?

@adrianizq For a long time after the redesign, you couldn’t set specific podcasts to always end up in your queue playlist. You could do it with other playlists, but not queue. I made my own Craig’s Queue playlist, but it always felt second class. Queue settings now have this.

@craigmcclellan interesting… I’ve never used the Queue feature/functionality in Overcast (or ever even registered it was a thing). I’ve always just had my ā€œNewā€ playlist that has all podcasts ordered in the Priority Podcast section so everything ends up where I want it in that ā€œqueueā€.

@humdrum the queue functionality is the primary feature of Castro that I love, but I thought podcasts sounded so much better in Overcast, that I just tried to re-create the queue with my own playlist for a long time. Then overcast added a queue, but I had issues. ļæ¼

@craigmcclellan neat, going to give the queue a go and see how it fits into my workflow. Appreciate you sharing the detail.

@craigmcclellan I’ve used Overcast for years and a few months back I switched to Apple Podcasts, basically since I’m a podcaster and wanted to see how most of my listeners experience the podcast. To my surprise, it’s fine.

@craigmcclellan I’ve been using Castro for a long time and liked it a lot. Unfortunately it has started to crash on me … so I’ve been looking for a new app. Currently I’m down to Podcaster and DownCast, Podcaster is pretty basic and I miss the possibility to set the playback speed on individual podcasts (I haven’t found a way to change the playback speed at all).

@jemostrom So sad Castro seems to have gone dormant. Their Queue system and overall design were best in class.

@craigmcclellan I had some carefully curated queue’s in Overcast, and it took a while to accept that there are other ways of listening. I’ve come to really like the ā€˜Last In, First Out’ system in Apple Podcasts, since it obliges me to go with the flow and stop being anxious about keeping up with the queue.
