After a few days I can say that using a feedreader is the best and easiest way to catch up with the overnight Micro.Blog timeline. Thanks to @todor for the link to ‘Friends posts’ in Feeds - Developers - Micro.blog Help Center. I use the wonderful NetNewsWire.

List of posts in NetNewsWire. One short post with link to full post expanded in NetNewsWire.

@Miraz Thank you, thank you, thank you! I miss SO much, and have to “load more” so many times, this is a life saver.

@Miraz Looks great. I follow a handful of people on Twitter this way so I never have to open that cesspool app. Is there a way to get a timeline feed without the replies?

@Miraz This is what I've been doing lately too, and it's fantastic. I've even used it all day a couple of times, but it makes replying to posts or threads more convoluted. I'm probably just sticking to using it to get caught up in the morning.

@Miraz agree, until we get syncing/"bookmarking" of the timeline this is the best way. Still hoping for syncing/"bookmarking"

@maique You're so welcome. This morning my feed had ~120 items. In NNW I sort with oldest at the top then use the Spacebar to go from item to item (or page to page inside a longer item). I use the wee Reader View toolbar icon when, as you see in the screenshots, someone just links to their full post. It's so easy, and of course you could Star items or mark unread if that's useful. The biggest drawback is not being able to Reply.

@pratik I also follow a handful of Twitter accounts this way. As for the No Replies question I'm afraid I can't help you there.

@Pilchuck 😀 During the day I read the Timeline in Safari, but the feed is great to catch up on large numbers of posts.

@jemostrom I was triggered by seeing a post of mine from 2019 where I was already frustrated by that lack. I've come to realise it just isn't a priority and is unlikely to ever happen.

@Cheri Nor did I although I've had the Discover feed in my feed reader for ages.

@Miraz This is fantastic. Thanks for sharing. I did try the RSS feed at first and the avatars were all the micro.blog icon. The JSON feed works correctly tho.

@mcg Ahhh, I was wondering if there was a difference. I don't understand anything much about feeds and certainly not about the difference between formats. I happened to start with the JSON feed.

@Miraz The RSS feed showing the wrong avatars seems like a bug.

@Miraz Thank you for this. I remember when I was last back in Europe that I was seeing what seemed like a completely different timeline to what I see here in Hawaii. I was aware of 'my timeline' feed, but not all these other options. Now to start experimenting and catching up.

@Miraz interesting. I tried it with FreshRSS and it did not get the photos. :(

@rom That's a shame. Did you try the other feed? There's an xml and a JSON.

@rom Did you replace the “username” part in the example URL’s with yours?

@mcg yeah - but I only get the Micro.blog star for each post.

@Miraz ah, I will check if I can get JSON to work. (Used XML)

@mcg @miraz Got it to work using JSON but I had to use iCloud instead of FreshRSS - for some reason, it does not support the JSON feed.

@Miraz I have discovered that if you read the Micro.blog feed on the Feedbin website or in their iOS app, for each Micro.blog post there is Micro.blog icon top right of the post. Clicking on that opens the whole conversation that has taken place around that post, even if you are clicking on a post half way through a conversation. Great integration, and yet another way to read Micro.blog.

@crossingthethreshold @miraz You can also click the top name in Reeder to take you to the conversation. The only catch is if it’s the original post it will take you directly to that post on their blog. Fine if you want to read it, but unless they’re using the “Conversation on Micro.blog” plugin you can’t reply directly from there.

@pimoore @miraz Thank you. I just tried it in Reeder. The Feedbin website/iOS offers you the conversation first at a sort of list (with clickable links) and the you can click on individual posts and be taken to what Reeder presents. I like Feedbin’s list. As you said in another thread (I paraphrase), we are blessed to have so many options.

@crossingthethreshold @pimoore Which inspired me to try something I hadn't thought to try in NetNewsWire (Mac): click on the date / time link and the conversation opens on the web. 👍
