@JeffPerry jack tweeted about a 10-day silent mediation as the world goes to hell 280 characters at a time. Was my last straw.
@ismh Thanks for letting me know about micro.blog. I've been getting fed up with Twitter (and Facebook long ago), but I wanted a place to share. This seems like a nice setup.
@ismh signed up here after reading your post. Thought I would check it out. I imagine there's less "button" measuring going on here.
@ismh My issue with Micro.blog is the lack of ability to find people. it can be super hard to find the people I care about on the internet here. But i guess indieweb has its drawbacks.
@JeffPerry Hey, I’ve been in micro.blog for a little while now and have a couple of tips that helped me. I started by following anyone I already knew, then every couple of days I check the discover tab. I follow people that seem interesting on there. Finally, because you see all replies currently on micro.blog any reply that catches my attention I’ll read the full convo and follow anyone that seems interesting. Final step: those that don’t turn out as interesting as I thought gets unfollowed. Repeat.
@EddieHinkle I like this approach. I think I might borrow this idea and try it out myself!
@mediocrates I’m still shocked this is a thing we have to talk about in 2017.
@JeffPerry Call me a pessimist but I’ve found it’s been really hard to feel shocked by much these days. On the plus side I’ve gone a couple weeks without social media and it’s been quite a nice change of pace.
@mediocrates as someone that isn’t directly attacked online because I’m a straight white male I found it shocking by how much hate people different than me receive.
@JeffPerry yeah, I mean I totally understand what your saying, as a fellow straight white dude myself. I also have learned a lot in the past couple years from my line of work, it exposed me to how a lot of other people experience the world. It’s something I’m really fortunate for.
