What’s the best hardware/software you’ve found for whiteboarding sessions while working remotely? I know nothing beats an in-person whiteboard, but does anything come close, in your opinion?

@joshuapsteele My favorite has been tldraw. As a teacher, I have used many different ones, and this one has the perfect blend of function and ease of use.

@joshuapsteele I like Miro. It’s easy for newcomers to get up to speed and has a lot of flexibility as to the types of sessions you can run with it. I have also used GroupMap, which is better for brainstorming with text and collects more data, but it’s not a true whiteboard.

@joshuapsteele I facilitate a lot of virtual meetings and have used Mural excessively, although Miro is also pretty great (they're essentially super similar)

@joshuapsteele I would like to know what the best whiteboard for online meetings is. I often have to use Miro, which is both amazing and really annoying at the same time.

@writingslowly I am curious what your gripes are with Miro. I certainly have a few, like over-zealous snapping to objects - which impacts placement of leaders/arrows and creating straight lines. Importing PDFs seems to drag down the board too.

@writingslowly @jedda @rglenny @xxxx What do you like to actually draw on a virtual whiteboard with? Mouse? Tablet? Something else?

@joshuapsteele I use my laptop keyboard and trackpad along with a Wacom Intuos tablet.

@joshuapsteele Usually just the trackpad on my laptop, but I also use a stylus directly on the trackpad that can work slightly better than just my fingers.

@joshuapsteele typically a trackpad. I find navigation on Mural cumbersome with a mouse so I typically switch to a trackpad just when I'm on it.

@rglenny Mainly, the screen is too small. Not Miro’s fault! Other issues: low resolution board export, but this relates to payment plan. Distracting cursors zooming around, but this can be turned off. I’d like a better way of exporting text beyond ‘export to csv’. Much better than Teams whiteboard.

@writingslowly Great point on screen size. I have found the bigger the better. Working on a laptop screen feels like I have a mini-whiteboard, which doesn't have the nice whiteboard effect of being able to see multiple ideas at once. I haven't thought much about exporting text, but that is also a great point. Miro is designed to be an end and doesn't facilitate moving content beyond Miro. One forgotten aspect of brainstorming and ideation is the amount of time/work it takes to get information from that workshop into a deliverable that supports the remainder of the project.

@rglenny “One forgotten aspect of brainstorming and ideation is the amount of time/work it takes to get information from that workshop into a deliverable that supports the remainder of the project.” - Yes, that’s a big one for me.
