Picard was quite good but, like most episodes of Discovery, it rarely felt like Star Trek to me. I think just want an optimistic crew going on adventures more?
@davextreme Agreed.I enjoyed Picard, but it’s practically a different genre than STNG and Voyager. It’s more of an action-adventure miniseries with drips of nostalgia, I think.
@Cheri @daveextreme I have only seen the pilot, but it feels the same to me. It's especially jarring as I've been watching TNG lately and go to that show for its rhythms and peaceful resolution of conflict. A good show, but a very different show.

@davextreme @cheri @kimberlyhirsh At the end of the last episode, my feeling was what a fantastic pilot episode. Now, that you have the crew lower the stakes and go visit a bunch of planets and do things that are mostly resolved in one episode, please.
@sproutlight @davextreme @kimberlyhirsh @cheri I am ok with new Star Trek having season-long story arcs and cliffhangers. But if you are going to tell a story with this many characters and such high stakes, you need more than 10 episodes.

@macgenie @sproutlight @davextreme @cheri I am okay with all the ways Picard is its own thing. The nice thing about TNG is that when I want those rhythms, I've got 7 seasons I can go back to. Which makes me not at all displeased that this isn't that.
@kimberlyhirsh Oh, agreed. I’m just more musing on what makes something feel like Star Trek (to me). DS9 managed it while introducing longer storylines. Discovery loses me sometimes when it’s doing season arc episodes. Picard felt very much its own thing (and good!).
