Is anyone still using the iPad mini 4 successfully? I bought it in 2015. Just trying to wipe and reset is maddening. I had planned to gift it to a 7 year old friend, but I think it might be close to unusable and too slow for anyone’s patience. The kid will hate me. Apple will give $70 credit for it. 🤔
@jean I am. No problems with speed, but I can't use it for banking anymore because the OS isn't compatible with their latest "upgrade".
@jean Yes, but apps are disappearing as they get sunsetted. It is kind of like that ST:TNG episode where Dr. Crusher gets caught in Wesley’s bubble universe.
@Archimage The latest available for the device, 15.8.2. The Erase All Content and Settings was hanging forever. I just checked and it finally finished.
At least now it’s set to trade it in. I think it would be a gift of frustration for a kid—and the parents. 🫤
@jean I’m still using the one my dad had before he passed away a couple of years ago, but only sparingly — it’s serviceable for streaming video, and actually quite nice as a Mastodon/email device, but being slow and a couple iOS versions behind it getting pretty noticeable, so I often just end up using my phone.
@jean addendum: it’s also nifty, if occasionally a little sluggish (and held back by the iOS version) for browsing your photo library.
I wish the current mini wasn’t so expensive.
@jean If it’s beyond the time keeps it’s OS updates it will be a security liability anyway.
Too bad though, I think tech companies should be forced to support computing degices fro at least a decade.
@jean I have a mini version 1 still in somewhat limited service, Kindle app and the books app still work, as does first version of Apple News so it is relegated to a distraction free bedside reader - would probably take the money though
