Gibraltar.
@jmreekes You landed there? Respect, sir! (I have watched some Gibraltar-related aviation videos, and it is no small feat, so I’m told by the YouTube pilots.)
@jean Thanks. I did, indeed do the landing at Gibraltar. The wind was fairly calm (around 15knots out of the south-southeast so the turbulence and wind effect was minimal. We also came out of Spain, so we were able to set up for long final approach.
@jean It’s when the winds get around 25 knots out of the southwest that things can get really interesting at Gibraltar. One of the airport pages mentions the possibility of waterspouts when winds get above 25kts from the SW.
@jean The length of the runway there isn’t as challenging for the jet I fly as is it for airliners. The runway at Gibraltar is 5,883ft long and 148ft wide. I have landed at Ocean Reef Airport (Key Largo, FL) which is 4,450ft long and 70ft wide (my jet’s wingspan is 73ft)
@kitt It was extremely hazy during the approach but you would never know it by the blue sky and clouds.
Thanks for satisfying my curiosity! I took an aviation class when I was in jr. high school, and once went with my dad for a single flying lesson, but didn’t pursue anything after that. YouTube really rekindled my interest… in watching pilots, not being one.
