About to watch Perseverance land on Mars. Why is Earth the only planet available as an emoji?

@cdevroe Apparently Mars was proposed but "Added to a larger set" in Travel and Places. I'm not sure what that means. It could still be under consideration. (I am still cranky about the rejection of the "guinea pig" emoji.)

@jean There are hundreds of emoji and yet the entire set seems woefully incomplete considering we're decades into having them in our lives.

@cn I understand the reasons they must be choosy. Once an emoji is created, they can’t get rid of it. But eventually the system is going to break under the weight of too many emoji no matter what. It’s one relatively small non-profit committee trying to manage what is a language used by millions (billions?) of people. A small committee of hamster owners.
