I’ve missed the past couple of days of the photography challenge because I’ve been so busy with work and dealing with a mini crisis. In the past, this would added to my anxiety. This constant need to participate in the world, even as lovely as the one created by Micro.blog. But I’ve le... purisubzi.micro.blog

@purisubzi I hear ya about the constant need to participate. Been there too. So I have been less eager in wanting to this time. I have already missed couple of days and I am fine with it.

@purisubzi Good on you! The MB challenge is just a bit of fun and you can play by your own rules. Part way through the last writing challenge I realised I wasn't enjoying it so just quit.

@Miraz Indeed its fun, but we've been so primed over past few years to chase those eyeballs and be part of the herd that it is difficult to step back and enjoy it for it is. I am really glad that this time I've managed to move past the guilt.

@pratik At the beginning, I blamed the social network for that constant need. Then I realised that it was actually my need to be performative that causes this. Once you put those thoughts into that bucket, everything just washes away!

@purisubzi @Miraz @pratik I’m appreciating this thread. Thank you for your thoughts, experience and example.

@purisubzi @pratik @miraz I find it curious that we feel the pressure to participate - especially given there's hardly anything to gain out of it. May be doing away with that one perceived gain of the pin will help?

@amit @purisubzi @pratik I felt and feel no pressure to participate beyond my own desire. With the one I stopped mid-way I simply realised I no longer had that desire. 😀

@purisubzi I wouldn’t worry 😊 If you don’t feel like it, don’t force it. We obviously miss the photos, your photos, but we’ll surely live another day without them, better yet if we know you’ll feel better by not posting 😊

@purisubzi I skipped the photo challenge this month after doing the previous ones. Just felt like the right thing for me. Instead I’m enjoying Day One showing me my posts from last year’s challenge.

@maique The past me would have been totally anxious about this. But now I am just completely OK with it ☺️

@amit I honestly didn't think about the pin until I saw your post! Like I said before, I think it was just the conditioning and guilt of being always online and always participating.

@ronguest I think I should do that! I don't have a Day One setup, but did backup all posts to GitHub. It'll be fun to look back at the prompt words and why I chose the pictures I did.

@purisubzi I'm feeling the same way, unfortunately. Life never stops and a silly challenge like this feels trivial. But! I'm really enjoying going deep into my archives and finding photos that fit the challenge. I've been cleaning them up and editing them and it feels like I'm bringing new life into them. This is my first photo challenge and I can see my self skipping future ones.

@purisubzi @miraz I guess you both already have mastered the control needed. I for that matter had struggled during the month of writing - I could have missed posting on a couple of days. But, for some reason, I stretched myself.

Was it needed? Absolutely not. Will I do it again? I guess I will 😬

@mariovillalobos That's great. I think the thing to keep in mind always is the fun part. If you aren't having fun and are doing it because you feel like you have to in order to belong, that sort of breaks the contract.

@amit @Miraz I think I might actually agree with you in the context of writing. I've always needed to push myself to write more, so a challenge is useful.

@purisubzi @amit @Miraz @pratik For long, I used to say I will do it for 30 days and just do not followthrough. I thought this could be the one thing to focus for this month.

I do understand the need for participation. At times, it could be overwhelming!

@ridwan @purisubzi @amit @miraz If you have never done it before, it’s fun the first time. Can get tedious after that. At that time, you just do the ones you want to. IIRC, the first time I tried to shoot the photos the day of and then the second time, I tried to find photos from my archives that I had not shared before.

@purisubzi After a recent period of overwhelm when progress on several projects came to a crashing halt, the phrase "Pick up wherever you left off" came to me. it helped me move forward without feeling stress about catching up.

@jean Oh that’s a good one! I think I have become better at holding that mentality but had yet to put into such a nice phrase.

@pratik Initially I thought of capturing one photo a day. But, I interpreted “photo-blogging” as blogging with a photo, as long as it’s related to the prompt.
