@herself Hey, I enjoyed this post! I can relate to a lot of the writing "roadblocks" and it's cool to see you've moved beyond them and put your work out into the world 😊 And on another note, I'm not sure about Bedrock Minecraft, but I've certainly played (a lot of) The Sims 4 on Linux. That was a few years ago too, so I think things like Lutris have come a long way since then and made it easier now. I would think (or hope) Bedrock Minecraft would be manageable, too, if you look into it. I certainly don't regret ditching Windows, even as a secondary boot, myself 😁

@jayeless thank you! (I forget these posts appear on blot because they don’t show up under posts or in my timeline.) That’s really interesting about running those games on Linux, I’ll obviously have to dig deeper. I don’t play a huge number of games these days but was a game reviewer for 10 years and there are still quite a few titles you just can’t (seemingly) play on Linux. I did manage to get Lutris installed on my daughter’s Ubuntu laptop so she could play stardew valley, but couldn’t figure out how to install updates. Do you just need to reinstall every time? I couldn’t figure it out.

@herself Hmm, I think that probably depends on how you install the game. If you can get Origin working through Lutris, I'd hope that would handle it (although I wasn't able to install it that way myself, way back in 2016, so yes in that case I had to reinstall 🙁). These days I mostly play games through clients – like Steam and itch.io – that handle updates for me. Steam in particular is good for Linux, as it now has an in-built compatibility layer called Proton, which lets you play many (though not all) Windows games as if they were native Linux games. It's completely seamless once you have it set up. Just in case you weren't aware, Stardew Valley also has a native Linux version now, so that should be a lot easier to update and keep playing too 🙂

@herself great to hear you're getting rolling. I related to your comments about keeping or deleting your intermediate "wonderings". I've been moving in the same direction: replacing the questions and idea notes with whatever the "final" decision is. also trying to be more verbose, after coming across too many previous notes that no longer made any sense 😆

@cgrayson so true! With a previous project any time I’d try to go back and review my notes I’d get all turned around again. It was really hideous trying to look back for useful information but also not get sidetracked by ideas I’d considered and dismissed already. I have no idea what the solution is...fire, maybe? 😩😝
