I'm not sure why it sounds surprising for Nvidia to be in the CPU/SoC game.
Nvidia has probably already shipped over 150 million ARM SoC chips, and they tried to buy ARM. They are clearly invested in the space.
Once Intel's exclusivity agreement with Qualcomm ends, I'm sure we'll eventually see Windows machines with Nvidia SoCs.
Soon we'll probably see what the Switch 2's SoC looks like, which is also expected to be Nvidia.
@atpfm as a guy who’s always thinking about learning iOS development to make custom apps for my ice cream shop, I might have to start joining the livestream/chat more often
@atpfm fwiw here's what it's like on the other side of the wall.
A quick search suggests that you can use assistant to summarise your notifications, but the summary from Google ('s large data centre, server powered LLM) gets this wrong as these are instructions for Android Auto. At least on a Samsung phone it's also not built into the system (and I don't think it is on the any version of Android yet).
Android being android means there are apps for this that can read and edit your notifications if you give them permission and provide their own summaries in place of the original.
No, I've not tried it yet as summarising notifications on my phone isn't something I've been desperate for, in part just due to the differences in how Android and iOS handled notifications before.
I'm not sure who Apple are playing catch up to here, and why they're rushing this particular feature.

@atpfm lucky Casey! My AirPods Pro 2 just randomly stop charging one side for a couple days every couple of months, but I only get (or notice) indicia of that a few hours later when the new state is (100%|1%).
@fraserhess @siracusa I kinda want to show him _Wrath of Khan_ first, but honestly, it'll be more entertaining (read: more of a train wreck) if we just jump right in
@fraserhess Like I said, we're not embarking on a Star Trek education. It's just the one movie for the special.
@atpfm why do you leave the case charging sounds on? Do they not annoy you and your other halves when you charge them at bedtime (assuming you charge them at that time)?
First thing I did was search for the way to prevent them from making those noises.
@atpfm RE DLSS speed.
DLSS used to use a convolutional neural network, which you can run at high frame rates on consumer HW. Here's Yann LeCun demoing CNNs in 1989 in near real time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwFduRA_L6Q
NVIDIA makes further optimisations to squeeze their DLSS models so that they are sufficiently fast. They use techniques such as pruning, distillation and quantisation.
Commercial LLMs like ChatGPT don't undergo the same level of aggressive parameter optimisation.
@atpfm Congratulations @marcoarment and Tiff on the new venture! You’re doing it for the right reasons, and I’m confident you’ll make it a success. Also, I’m pretty excited to hear your perspective on tech from a new angle with this. Should be a fun ride! Good luck.
@atpfm @caseyliss the AirPods thing is ear wax gunk. clean the case and buy replacement earbuds from Apple (not too pricy).
This answer is TMI, so you’ll never find it online. But they do sell the replacement ear buds…
@atpfm have you guys had any thoughts on how long one must remain a patron before advancement to ATP Fellow?
@atpfm I disagree with Marco. I think his new purchase is much worse than buying a boat :-)
@atpfm Just listened and am very happy for @marcoarment That was a great decision #nospoilers
@atpfm I'm so proud that, within seconds, I correctly guessed what @marcoarment bought. Maybe because that's also a type of purchase I have daydreamed about making 😅 I haven't given in yet, though…
@atpfm @siracusa I wonder if the corrugated particleboard appearance of the Nvidia Digits is meant to evoke the Pixar Image Computer: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixar_Image_Computer#/media/File:PixarImageComputerP2OpenHouse.jpg
@atpfm @siracusa covered many of the relevant CES announcements, but may still be interested in this recap blog post, from someone who covers HDR displays from the perspective of editing photos in the HDR space:

@atpfm
@caseyliss I don’t think I’ve heard the AirPods sound you’re describing but I found this today… could the sound be related to the new hearing test feature?

@atpfm @siracusa Great episode! One contribution I can make: You missed what is arguably the most significant technical aspect of DLSS Frame Generation (introduced in DLSS3): it is not extrapolating the next frame based on the previous frame(s), but rather *interpolating between* rendered frames. This reduces error by leaps and bounds.
Hold up a second, what? How is it possible to add a frame *before* the one being shown? Did they invent a time machine? Well, no. /1

@atpfm congratulations @marcoarment
I vote on coke, free food for John and Casey, and free 2nd drink for ATP members 😂
Now seriously, I like the way you think and don’t need to wish you good luck, you will succeed!
@atpfm @marcoarment Congratulation! I’m a NYCer and hope to visit to support. Best of luck.
@atpfm
First of all, congratulations Tiff and @marcoarment!
I am wishing you all the best for the restaurant.
Since nobody else asked:
What is the current and future coffee situation in the établissement? Is coffee served there? How is it made? Would you drink it? Is it subject to change?
@atpfm re the summarisation icon - it’s a shame they got rid of the Siri icon with the new look, that could’ve been a distinctive “Siri (Apple AI) says the notifications say this…” - albeit of course leaving it open to being more negative equity for the Siri ‘brand’
@atpfm I look forward to the final episode of ATP, in which John reviews the restaurant
@martyyyn @atpfm That's my favorite Billy Joel song, and I got the reference immediately. Here's a neat cover. https://youtu.be/ve6R_p4hsfk?si=0xzlQT4i6C0UK2Bb
@erikosterholm I'm sure you will be shocked to learn that neither of my cohosts got the reference. Including the one that lives on Long Island.
@siracusa @erikosterholm OH! I thought it was the restaurant at the end of the universe, from THGTTG!
@erikosterholm @martyyyn @atpfm I’m extremely shocked to learn that Ken Marino is a great singer!
@atpfm Such a great episode. I’m here for Accidental Restaurant Podcast, or Top4 restaurant jobs, with @marcoarment and Tiff.
I also like that Marco has found a way to own new and exciting outside areas, presumably to place indoor-only electrical equipment 🤣
@atpfm Why did I think @marcoarment had moved off of Fire Island? I thought there was a whole series of "moving to new house” discussions.
@atpfm One thought I had during the new Mouse segment in regards to wireless charging via mousepads: it enables the triumphant return of AirPower. It would be interesting if they released a mouse pad form factor that could charge any Apple device capable of wireless charging. When just the Mouse was on it, you could enable Optizimed Battery Charging to make sure the battery is automatically managed by the AirPower Pad.
