Strongly agree with this reaction from Ben Werdmuller on Joe Biden commuting many death row sentences:
The death penalty is a barbaric practice that has no place in the 21st century, just as it had no place in the 20th century. It needs to be abolished everywhere, for any reason.
Life in prison is enough. And it allows a reversal when we get a conviction wrong. Justice, not revenge.
@manton I do not know enough about these specific cases, but I agree with your overall point. I do not think that the state should be in the business of deciding which of its citizens get to live or die. It is a pretty clear case of government overreach, and arguably “cruel and unusual” as well.
@manton Ought to give the prisoner a choice. Some think death is more merciful than imprisonment without attempt of reform or hope of release
