We in the US have forgotten so much about our own history. It’s been sterilized with the dangerous bits removed.

International Worker’s Day - Wikipedia

Baldur Bjarnason -

Today is International Worker’s Day, known as Labour Day in most countries. The date was originally chosen by the American Federation of Labor to commemorate the strike that ended in the Haymarket Massacre

It’s a day for, among other things, solidarity with protests

@Denny I know I've said this before, but I love Utah Phillips. His album We Have Fed You All a Thousand Years was massively important to me when I first heard it and it still stirs me whenever I listen to it. Have you seen the Harlan County, USA documentary? My ancestors were from that area of KY and then moved up here for limestone quarry jobs. I have a strong love for those blue-collar unions because of that family connection.

@jabel Yes, so good. That album reminds me of a trip I made to Portland, OR in 1999 for the IWW General Assembly and being in a room full of people singing all the old songs. Those moments and memories go deep.

I think I may have seen Harlan County documentary many years ago, adding it to my list to watch.
