Something that I haven’t seen anywhere on the Indieweb: is there a simple guide for services which let you replace Twitter, Facebook, Insta, etc etc with more open alternatives? Preferably written with non-technical users in mind?

@ianbetteridge I'm aware of switching.software, along with privacytools.io's social networks guide. The recommendations would be more federation-oriented than "host it yourself", at least for non-technical users, though.

@ianbetteridge Ah, there's the $64million question. That's the big issue with the indieweb, it's still very developer centric. That's why I think @manton has done such a standout job with micro.blog making the indieweb more accessible.

@ianbetteridge No guide per se. However, Twitter -> Mastodon. Facebook -> MeWe. Instagram -> Vero/Flickr. Not all are open source, except for Mastodon.

@odd @ianbetteridge Micro.blog is one of the best IndieWeb friendly services out there to replace some of these platforms with a user friendly set up. https://indieweb.org/Quick_Start delineates some other services like i.haza.website, Pine.blog, and Typlog which have some great features too depending on what you're looking for. If you've got someone with some modest technical chops to run a small service for you and some friends, Known can be an awesome option too. #
