There are some wild numbers in this report at Bloomberg about Appleā€™s spending on TV+ content. Reaffirms my belief that Apple has lost their focus. Too much attention on services, sometimes to the detriment of core platforms, developers, and users.

@manton One of the reasons why I haven't watched any of the Apple TV shows yetā€¦ From the beginning I didn't like the idea of Apple suddenly getting into media creation business instead of focusing on hardware and software. I just don't feel comfortable with this new direction.

@manton I reckon they need a new CEO. Time to end the Tim Cook era.

@manton but how could Apple resist the investors expecting recurring revenues, a trend that we see everywhere in tech these days?

@manton John Nathan's excellent book about Sony chronicles their foray into the movie business. History doesn't necessarily repeat itself, but it does sometimes rhyme.

@manton Ok but on the other hand you don't get to watch Severance or Dark Matter. Are you confortable with this ?

@manton I got the 3 months for free offer from the new iPad now, so I was thinking of using it to watch a couple of the shows like Severance for free and then turning it off again ;)

@manton Severance and Ted Lasso are cant misses.

Silo and For All Mankind are very good

Foundation is hit or miss, however they let Lee Pace cook so it's not a bad watch.

@manton Is it that much different than MS with Xbox and other interests/business units though?

I donā€™t think thereā€™s a big ā€œfocusā€ dial that has ā€œmediaā€ at one side and ā€œdevelopmentā€ at the other and Tim Cook cranking it to one side whilst ripping up good development ideasā€¦

I think Apple has a vision for its platforms regardless of this other stuff they do. Itā€™s just people arenā€™t liking what theyā€™re doing. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

@manton I don't see how spinning up an entertainment division that (hopefully) runs on it's own separate from everything else is a distraction? I honestly think we all benefit from Eddie Cue having something to do besides mess with software. šŸ˜†

@manton Yeah, I was thinking about Silo too because of Rebecca Ferguson ;)

@iChris Ha! Yeah, it's a distraction to the business, though. Going all-in on services (and App Store revenue, and ads) has potential conflicts with what is best for users and developers, in my opinion.
