@birming I do love this platform for the features and the ability to have everything cross post. But yes, it can become distracting wanting to tweak all the time.

I decided to make mine all shorter posts, more note-style rather than in-depth longer rambling posts.

@jeknotes Very true! I was thinking more about the micro posting part, and the “all in” kind of tinkering 😅 I hope to be able to keeping writing and designing in a good balance. Thanks for your input!

@alexwolfe It sure can. Probably isn’t an issue for most, but with my love for things like that, it’s easy to get carried away 😊

I like your setup!

@birming I just throw everything all in one place and then tinker with my theme endlessly 😆

@heyloura I love that approach! I really wish I were more like that. Maybe I just need to let loose a bit. 😊

@birming I’ve been wrestling with the same question of long vs. short posts for over a year. I think I have finally landed on a solution that works for me.

I maintain a WordPress blog at robertbreen.com, where I share my long-form writing. This blog dates back a decade and has garnered a substantial number of comments and subscribers. My hosting plan is paid through 2028, so there’s no additional cost to keep this, and I like having a stand-alone site for my longer-form writing.

I keep an everything blog here on Micro.blog at robertbreen.micro.blog: all those long posts plus the hundreds of shorter ones, including imports from Facebook and Instagram. It has become my true home on the web, as it now contains all my online writing.

Between the gorgeous and flexible MNML theme and @lmika’s new Postlist plug-in, Micro.blog offers a great set of tools and capabilities for showcasing both long and short-form writing.

I love your writing and all the cool things you’ve done with the MNML theme!

@birming bit of personal experience, keep EVERYTHING in once place. I did the shorter, ephemeral posts separate, but honestly it was too much hassle. Keeping everything in one place and then I would add an emoji (so if I was commenting on a football match I typically add ⚽, if I’m ranting against the idiot I add a 🍊 and so on). That way you can always delete these if they annoy or not.

@robertbreen Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences. Sounds like you’ve got a great setup going! If I decide to go down that route, I’ll probably upgrade to MB Premium and keep both blogs in one place. You’re right about the theme and plug-ins, it really does offer a lot of nice possibilities. Thanks again, I’m glad you like it!

@kaa Thanks for sharing! Great to hear both sides of it. I tried running two blogs for a while when I was using Bear Blog, but eventually found it too much of a hassle. I have this idea that things might be easier with MB, but maybe I’m just fooling myself. Right now, I’m leaning 60% toward having one blog and 40% toward two. Gonna give it a bit more thought. Thanks again!

@pratik I started to feel a bit too limited. I wrote a short post about it: Why I moved my blog to Micro.blog
