I am going to move my personal/non-wedding email account away from Hey. I don’t want to go back to GMail for privacy reasons, no to Outlook because of UX, and I don’t want to go back to Fastmail because it feels like the 90s over there. Any recommendations?

@gpittman fastmail + spark on macOS is so buggy for me and bug reports have gone ignored

@sylvia onmail shows a lot of promise (just got an account to kick tires), but Superhuman has spoiled me with keyboard shortcuts - that is a very sticky feature.

@joshua Onmail.com is a new alternative. It has free and paid plans.

@AndyNicolaides I’ve got a legacy Mac.com email address too, but I’d love to use my own domain now

@joshua if not Fastmail, how about Protonmail.com and bundle that with simplelogin.io?

@joshua using Fastmail with apps like Spark IMO is the way to go. Fastmail has all the modern work under the hood (and I think the webapp is pretty great too, but I don’t really use webmail other than to set up mail rules) but then I can use pretty much whatever email app with it.

@jsonbecker Spark on Big Sur on Apple Silicon is too buggy for my liking

@joshua Careful with apps like Spark and others that store your mail credentials on their servers.

@mcg that is a growing concern too. Why is simple mail transfer protocol so hard!?

@joshua No kidding. I tend to stick with Mail.app and Fastmail. Reliable and nothing between the client and the service.

@jsonbecker is there a way to import the mac rules over to fastmail?

@JohnPhilpin I’ve never tried a direct import, but I have been able to make everything I need.

@joshua have used Fastmail for years now and I mostly like it, but their Dark Mode just ruins emails and as an email designer it irks me no end. I’ve stuck with them hoping they’ll adopt standards and improve.
