@manton I agree. Just blocking Meta achieves nothing.

@manton Hear hear.

You're giving your users options and choices. That's the right way. If I don't want my posts on Threads (or on Facebook, or whatever), I'll keep the box unchecked. That's all there's to it.

While Meta is a "bad" company morally speaking, their users, which are our friends, family, and coworkers, are not. People live in Instagram and Facebook. They won't jump ship and adopt the Fediverse tomorrow morning, or next year. Meta might offer us to connect with them again.

It's been decades since I've posted on Facebook or Instagram for that matter, effectively blocking communications with everyone on the platform. I have nothing to lose from Threads, only to gain.

Great post @manton and agreed with you @jtr on restablishing connections with friends and family that are still in the Meta network. I left FB years ago and have hardly touched Instagram the past year. Would be nice to have the option to share and communicate with them via ActivityPub.

@manton Should we preemptively block them nope, but welcome? We should prepare, be on a hair trigger and expect them to do what they have done time and time again in the past. They are no friend to ActivityPub nor the open web. They have damaged trust in democracies across the world. But this time will be different?
