@birming Love you blog. I am currently on the iPad only setup. Rocking the iPad Pro 11” 2018 with Magic Keyboard running iPadOS 26. It works beautifully. For Micro.blog, you can use iA Writer on iPad. It’s super smooth to publish.

@birming don’t :). The iPad is great for a lot of things (drawing, marking things up, being a single focused device). When it comes to any HTML/CSS stuff it is horrible. The inspectors are ok, but nowhere near as the default stuff on a Mac. I lived that life for 5 years until I went back and got a Mac mini
@birming I have a 13” MacBook Air that bring everywhere (even camping, overseas travel, and brewery visits) and I wouldn’t trade it for an ipad. It’s the best computer I’ve owned. I considered getting an ipad, but it’s nearly the same size and I didn’t offer enough additional benefits.

@kaa Thanks for sharing! Yeah, it’s that part I’m mostly concerned about. I also have an idea of trying to take the coding to the next step, building a plug-in or something. Maybe that will be even worse…
@birming I’ve been using a Surface Go 2 tablet as my laptop for a few years and it does most of the things I need it to do. It’s annoying that it can’t actually sit on your lap, though, with the way tablets have the little kickstand, or I think iPad’s TypeCover kinda acts as the kickstand. I would go with the Air. This thing is close to the end of its life too and I’m definitely going to go with a real laptop when it’s time!
@birming I use both! I have an M1 MacBook Pro and an M2 13 inch iPad Pro. I definitely use the iPad Pro more often than the laptop. Having said that there are some things that are easier on Mac OS. Video editing and occasional coding come to mind.
@birming I have an iPad Pro 12.9” with an Apple Magic Keyboard and an M1 MacBook Air. I packed both on a five-month trip to New York, and I am using the MacBook much more than the iPad. The apps I need for blogging are available on both machines (Safari and Ulysses), but I prefer the ergonomics and extended capabilities of the Mac over the iPad. While 95% of the time the iPad is fine, it’s that five percent case where I need full-blown apps only available on the Mac that make the iPad so frustrating.
@birming I’d probably suggest getting the MacBook. In my limited experience, the ability to do development work on the iPad has a pretty firm ceiling. Even if you’re using something like Code Server, I’ve found doing the basics quite frustrating on the iPad, and anything beyond the basics impossible. Of course, my expectations are coloured by my profession so YMMV.
