@fiona Neat, any particular reason for your choice?

@AngeloStavrow I use the website in Chrome on either my PC or Chromebook, as well as reading & posting replies in Dialog.

@Ron Right! As I recall you’re on Windows which has no native app. If there were (either by the Micro.blog team or a third party), do you think you’d still use the website?

@AngeloStavrow Yes, definitely! Dialog works fine on Android for reading in dark mode in the middle of the night and for the occasional reply. But if I want to post, I would always use the website. It's just typing text, no need for an app! I don't carry my life in my pocket. I like big spaces, not teeny weeny phone screens with itty bitty areas for typing text. That just makes me feel cramped & small, no room for expansive thoughts. Especially with conversations (more common now), you want a nice big screen where you can look over 5-10 comments on the same screen. AND if you don't already have one, be sure to get a hosted website!

@AngeloStavrow website. I like visiting peoples websites/blogs in the browser, always have, always will.

@tones That's a great reason!

@fiona Right on. For me, that often turns into what you describe as a hyperlink hydra — but that's how I find some of the most interesting things I read, too!

@Ron There's definitely something very freeing about a browser! Sometimes it's nice to just open a blank new tab and ask myself, "where shall I go today?"

@AngeloStavrow Only four responses so far, but we're 4/4 in using the website over a desktop app to access micro.blog. I think that's really interesting.

@AngeloStavrow I self–host, using the apps for consumption and some contribution (thread starters/initial posts)

@AngeloStavrow I'm hosted and I use the website. I'm not an Apple user so I have no alternative, but even if I did, I will always prefer browser. Simpler is better.

@vega Could you elaborate on what you mean by "simpler"?

@AngeloStavrow One more app means one more thing on my smartphone/PC to manage. It spreads out my attention and dilutes my focus on the critical tasks. If M.b works just as fine in a browser as a dedicated app, I see no need for the app. It's largely personal preference. I lean towards parsimony and running a tight ship on my electronic devices, which (as I think we all know) have an insidious power to dilute focus.

@AngeloStavrow website. I'm mainly on Linux and Android. My next phone will be Linux based so that will also be website or die since there will be no hope for apps.

@furstenberg Interesting, is there some task you prefer handling via the macOS app rather than the website, or vice-versa?

@kulturnation So many options! Is there something you prefer doing in the macOS instead of the website (or the other way around)?

@bradenslen I used to be very much native-app-or-nothing when it came to mobile devices... more and more, though, I'm seeing the advantage of apps being web-first.

@AngeloStavrow same here. But when I found out about the tracking stuff I dumped my Twitter and Facebook apps from phone and tablet and replaced them with the web apps in the browser. Bliss! No notifications, no tracking. And actually the web apps are quite good.

@AngeloStavrow The browser is usually used when I want to correct something in a post. Like alt description for an image.

And then I might have a couple of tabs open with different conversations.

And the Mac app and ios apps are more for browsing the timeline.

And my rss readers take care of timeline as well.

@kulturnation That is definitely a problem with email-based login. I love the idea of finding ways to log in without having to remember passwords, but this email-based version just means that you have to rely on remembering your email password (and logging onto your email on an unknown computer!).

@tmj I do tend to prefer the iOS app experience over the mobile website (I use the official app).
