I ended up with the Eldest Attendee badge. I thought I’d find an eligible recipient at the karaoke party, but I guess everyone older than me went home to bed. So I did too.

Last #xoxofest. 😭 Thanks @andymcmillan@xoxo.zone and @andybaio@xoxo.zone. Life-changing inspiration, generously shared by all.

Me with a black xoxo badge that reads Eldest Attendee.

Something for the youngsters to take heed of. You will one day, if you’re lucky, be the oldest. Congrats Jean.

@Miraz Whenever I started feeling a little cranky that I had this designation, I would check myself and say “don’t fall for the ageist bs that would make you feel bad about yourself for being who you are.” I’ll probably write a blog post about that if I recuperate from post-conference exhaustion. 😏

@jean That just means you have an enduringly curious and flexible mind. I bet you continue to listen to new music, too. When Facebook started, all my college friends said they stopped listening to anything newat age 40 or so, whereas I still search for new and interesting. You should feel glad, perhaps even smug.

@jean Exactly. We're lucky to be as old as we are. I'm old enough now that I can name a dozen friends and acquaintances who aren't getting any older. It's a lucky privilege to age. 😁

In Māori society (and many others around the world) the 'aunties' and other elders are respected for their experience and knowledge. I see myself as an 'aunty' now.

@jean I learned from my church-going days that the oldest and youngest people in the room had the most in common. (And also, are the ones everyone should be paying more attention to.) Wear it with pride!
