I love the mastodon functionality of micro.blog a lot. However without localization, I really struggle to „onboard“ my less tech savvy, older aged, German relatives.

Any ideas? I‘m not really into developing custom themes

@fschuttkowski There are efforts to support this, at least when it comes to posting in multiple languages. Like in this update from last week. I don't know about localization when it comes to the official apps and themes, though. What do you say, @manton?

@sod is there an entry point or a tutorial that I could try following along if i want to develop my own, localized subthme of e.g. Marfa theme? I mean, there is no harm in giving it a try

@sod @fschuttkowski Localized the apps is a big project. Themes should be more straightforward, though. Ideally would need some Micro.blog improvements to lean on Hugo language support.

@manton I can help with localizing the apps if you need support

@fschuttkowski I don't know of a single entry point, but there are quite a few resources out there. First, Micro.blog is hosted Hugo with many bells and whistles and extra features sprinkled on top. So Hugo resources, like the docs, are good references to have at hand. And, of course, the official Micro.blog Help Documents. There's also the community project, How to customise Micro.Blog, with plenty of resources and links.

And if you have a Micro.blog-specific theming question, a few of us plug-in and theme developers hang around over at the Help center forum and try to help each other when we get stuck. 😊
