Sean Heber:

I sped up the Tapestry timeline by over 350% by getting rid of SwiftUI. Increasingly of the opinion that SwiftUI was a huge mistake.

If I had been in charge at Apple, I would’ve done a streamlined Obj-C and unified all platforms around UIKit. It’s such a mess of different APIs now.

@manton The API mess is a very solid signal that developers are not the priority at Apple. Also not priorities: customers of developers (see App Store), suppliers, anyone making something Apple might someday sell, customers of Apple (see iOS26, bugs in all OS versions, confusing product offerings, adoption of ads, etc.). All hail the Mighty Investor.

@fgtech It’s a bummer. It hurts Apple over time too, such as developers moving to non-Apple frameworks and doing fewer Apple-exclusive features.

@manton 💯

It’s a fad in MBA thinking to extract value from company resources (including intangibles like reputation) in any way possible. Like it’s some kind of mission. But that quick buck is like a sugar rush that leads to a crash. Lost in the frenzy are the fibrous elements of community, culture and ecosystem responsible for creating value in the first place.
