Minor bummer that I wasn’t expecting when doing more local LLM work in my app: the mlx-swift package adds quite a bit to application size on disk. Micro.blog for Mac jumps from only 10 MB to about 50 MB. Still relatively small for 2026, though.

@manton There are times I wonder whether applications today are really 1000x better than the ones we used to shoehorn into 64K. But I should probably go out and yell at clouds instead of dwelling on that.
@ffmike I think programmers (myself included) got spoiled on computers improving every year. No need to optimize at the same level. Apps are more capable today, but I don’t think they’re necessarily as well crafted as 20 years ago.
@manton Just realized that I did my first coding literally 50 years ago. It’s been interesting watching things evolve. I think overall programs have gotten both more capable & buggier as hardware capacity exploded and layers of abstraction stacked up.
