There’s a project in there somewhere… if I just keep planing maybe I will find it

one heck of a mess on my workbench. hand planes, wood, shavings

@dwalbert Keep at it. You do great work. I sat on your bench yesterday and felt gratitude for your skill.

@dwalbert Yeah, been there :) I have the same Nicholson type bench, it’s served me well, but I keep thinking about a new bench build one of these … years

@troykitch I like being able to hack the Nicholson bench, and I have a Moxon vise, but I would like a second bench with a leg vise. For that, though, I need a workshop where both sides don’t flood in heavy rain!

@dwalbert A shop that periodically floods is just miserable, I had that situation in my old shop. The leg vise is what I'm after too, I have a homemade Moxon vise, but I'd love to have something I didn't have to set up each time I need it. Still, the Nicholson bench is supremely flexible to hack, as you say. I've installed an end vise, a pop up bench stop, and a solution to hold my chisels and some other tools on the back edge.
