@maique this is the second trip to Istanbul I've taken on someone's blog in a month! Something's trying to get me over there, I'm convinced!

@starrwulfe It’s a sign! And I’m glad this one talked you into it too 🙂

@maique When you have five hours to watch a movie again, I highly recommend Three Thousand Years of Longing. “A lonely scholar, on a trip to Istanbul, discovers a Djinn who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom.” It’s mind-blowing. (You definitely put this on my list. Though if I went to an Istanbul bazaar and found a genie’s lamp, I would only try to unlock it if I had a guarantee it would be Idris Elba. 😍)

I loved that movie. We watched it several times. The A. S. Byatt story on which it's (pretty closely) based is worth reading too.

@jean Thank you, it’s on the list now. I’ll just say yes to anything with Mr Elba in it, and adding Turkey to it is a great selling point now 🙂

@maique Interesting read, I like the journal format! Have enjoyed all your photos during the trip.

@maique What a great read. I now feel caught up on the posts from your trip. I’m curious, what do you use (software) to put together a post like that?

|
Embed
Progress spinner

maique

@crossingthethreshold Thank you! 😊

And, to answer your question: Drafts. As always. I’ll add to the post when I’m walking about, or in the evening, or during a break.

Then expand on some items, delete others, as you do.

Including links is a tap away, as inserting photos. In the end I’ll just publish. Love Drafts.

Live demo next time you’re around. Promise.

@crossingthethreshold My pleasure.

Above the keyboard, on the extra row, these are always handy:

1 - Insert Markdown link. I'll find the site I want to link to, copy URL to clipboard, get back to Drafts, select text I want linked, and tap this.

2 - Publish, nothing else

3 - Paste. Handier than waiting for context menu.

4 - Insert image. If I have a URL for the image, this formats that with proper Markdown around it.

5 - Publish with category picker, and title on/off.

There is also a "preview" further down the line, and on right side menu, that allows me to check that everything is fine on longer posts (regarding links and photos).

@maique What's the insert image action? I've had trouble getting my Drafts action for that to work nicely with Shortcuts (where the real magic happens).

@maique can’t really add to the plaudits for your Turkish post .. nicely done .. and thankyou for the tips on ‘live posting’ which I think I am still not fully understanding .. but that’s all right.

@jarrod The insert image is WAY simpler than you might be thinking. Images are usually (99%) uploaded with Mimi, and it’s a simple copy/paste to get them where I want them. In this particular case I was using images that had been uploaded (and published) while I was there. I just found them, and copied the image URL to the clipboard. This actions simple wraps that URL, turning it into .

@maique Love your travel reports, it’s 2am, so I’m going to read the whole thing tomorrow, (later today, really).

Note: I noticed an image in your discussion, that was very wide, so when scrolling on my iPhone, the page “swims” diagonally. Not a huge problem, but maybe the theme can be optimised or something, idk.

@keoshi No, sir, it is not. Part of the core functionality of M.b. You define a category, and then define a filter (you'll find a way to edit these at the bottom of the categories page). You can even apply them retroactively.

@keoshi Feel free to ask. A lot of things are really well thought out here but, sometimes it's not that easy to find them... Hahahahaha... One cool about it is the community, someone will quickly jump out and help you. A LOT of information is also available at help.micro.blog/.
