Wishful thinking to think that anyone as powerful as in this list will go public against the State, against the President. This will never happen.

@dimillian We don’t expect CEOs to “go against” him, just not be so over-the-top excited about the results. That exclamation point in Tim Cook’s tweet says everything.

@manton or maybe just not say anything. Anything else is just performative and embarrassing.

@dimillian @marcoarment Going against the president is one thing, refraining from publicly licking his boots is another.

@manton dimillian@mastodon.social A lot of folks are making way too much out of that exclamation point. It was probably written by a staffer or by committee without much thought that it would trigger all the progressive Apple bloggers. Sure, Republicans buy iPhones too, and being sensitive to that is partly at play. But so is national healing—as President Biden said today, “we cannot only love our neighbor when we agree.”

@lukemperez Honestly if he was that careless about punctuation, that bothers me too. This is one of the most important tweets he has ever posted. And it was just fired off like you might wish someone happy birthday on Facebook? That is at odds with many people saying this was a calculated, necessary move.

@manton Both can be true—calculated and necessary doesn’t mean they workshopped and market researched how to write the post. But I also think the huff over it is a bit much. If Harris had won, I would have hoped Musk would have written as much (though I wouldn’t bet on it).

@GeekAndDad He could have just made a phone call. This was done in public.

@manton I consider the exclamation point a signal to others that it was performative, as of course it was.

@dimillian @marcoarment Much less investors. Fiduciary responsibility is a real thing.

I agree with the sentiment but with DOJ sniffing around to break all these companies up left and right their priorities not aligned with anyone’s personal politics. Remember, Microsoft would 100% have been broken up if not for Bush winning and changing priorities at the DOJ (re: 9/11). Trump being elected effectively ends these lawsuits for the companies that bend their knees and everyone knows it.
