Finally going to cross a task off my list I’ve had for a while…

Aligning my bookshop.org wishlist with my Epilogue want to read list with my Libby hold queue.

@patrickrhone At one point, I was trying out apps and I was trying to keep up with four reading apps not including Libby

@patrickrhone nice! I love Libby but managing a wishlist and hold list in there is a pain! But then, the platforms I use - StoryGraph and Literal - don't have any link to Libby either. So it's just a whole lot of running around when I'm looking for my next book.

@pratik I’m trying to find a good book to borrow on Libby for the trip while also moving all of my “want to read” management to Epilogue.

So many of the books I’d most like to borrow for the trip have hold times far beyond that. Sad emoji.

@patrickrhone Just in case you didn’t know, Micro.blog can sync your Libby holds so they show up in Epilogue. On the web, Bookshelves → … → Import. That helps a little although you still probably want separate regular bookshelves.

@nitinkhanna That’s part of why I’m sticking to one thing (Epilogue) for want/reading/read management. Libby is mainly entering the task equation because I’m now using said list to try to find a book to borrow for an upcoming trip.

@manton I did NOT know that! Fantastic.

That said, for this I’m heading the other direction. Selectively and strategically stacking holds in Libby from my “want to read” list.

@manton Is there any documentation about what this feature does and why. Did not seem to find much about it in @help. Thanks.

@patrickrhone I have mostly given up on Libby because of the crazy wait times. That’s not the app’s fault, of course, and not a big deal for me since I generally dislike ebooks and read them only as a last resort, but it still sucks.

@patrickrhone It appears to be completely undocumented! Oops. I'll write something today. Essentially: when you link with Libby, Micro.blog will show your loans and holds as bookshelves. They are read-only, just to keep an eye on Libby, and can't be modified from within Micro.blog or Epilogue.

@petebrown I also rarely use it and prefer physical books as well but can't realistically bring one with me on my upcoming vacation so going to check something out to read on my iPad mini instead.

@patrickrhone I am loving Epilogue. It works perfectly for my reading blog here, and continues to be improved. Regarding the comments about hold times on Libby. Libraries have to by individual "e-copies" of eBooks, just like they do physical books, so it is common especially for popular books to have long waits. Also just the general popularity of the app and eBooks in general.

@bloftin2 Yep. One of my least favorite conceits of the publishing industry.

@patrickrhone My biggest problem with using Overdrive/Libby is that my holds inevitably come in while I'm in the middle of another book!

@patrickrhone In Anne Tyler's Accidental Tourist, Macon always travels with the same one book. "The book was Miss MacIntosh, My Darling, and it was 1,198 pages long... He'd been lugging around Miss MacIntosh for years. It had the advantage of being plotless, as far as he could tell, but invariably interesting, so he could dip into it at random." So that's one approach to your problem.

@bloftin2 @patrickrhone @petebrown Fwiw you can sign up for online cards at multiple libraries if you meet the residency requirements or if they don't require it.
