@manton > If you moved a repo from GitHub to Codeberg, it wouldn’t be any less centralized than before.

That’s right, therefor you - like me - should host your own forgejo instance: git.jeena.net

There is some work though, especially allowing people to collaborate on it, for now I only allow people with a GitHub account on it, because that was the only easy Oauth which worked, Codeberg users can’t log in (yet?).

I wish we could get federation working finally, it has been in the works for so long.

@manton I’m still on Facebook, happy to be there, so many friends there I stay in touch with and I’m confident if I were to resign it wouldn’t be noticed by anyone in ZuckLand or anywhere.

I have a Twitter account which is useful for keeping track of the WordPress community – it seems they use everything other than WordPress to share info. I’m trying to encourage them to use RSS by starting wp.feedland.org/. There is some hope.

Each resignation has a cost, and it’s really hard to see any return for making the investment. In the case of GitHub I can’t imagine whata would be better. Yes I know it’s owned by Microsoft, but if you all switch to something else, how long before that is owned by Oracle or Salesforce, or something Elon Musk owns. It’s very hard for the startup people to resist the offer when it comes.

Imnsho – it would be better if people could working together on building interop on the web, so peopld could build nice useful systems that are more powerful than anything the BigCentralizedCos could make on their own. That’s how we really win, not with symbolic moves, but by doing things that really matter.

@dave Agreed. That’s part of what I was trying to get at in my post… I think for people quitting larger platforms, it’ll make the most impact if that action is paired with supporting an indie developer, building a new app, starting a blog, etc.
