Comparing Ghost and Micro.blog: manton.org

@manton There should be an email newsletter service you could hook up to, without all the extras.

I’d actually like to write an editor for micro.blog.

All these things are leveraging incompatibility, if there was a set of services that took the opposite approach, and they could be connected without too much pain for users, it would be quite a story.

@dave What would it take to adapt WordLand to work with Micro.blog too? Maybe I could add limited support for the WordPress REST API.

@manton Pika and Pagecord are also worth mentioning when it comes to blogging platforms with newsletter support.

@birming Cool, I was just limiting myself to platforms with ActivityPub, since that’s the big thing in Ghost 6.0. Otherwise it would be a long list! Actually this page from Manu Moreale is really good for that.

@manton – i’m happy to explore this, but i don’t think it’s the strongest way we could collaborate.

i think the idea of the open emailer with a nice simple UI and easy to deploy is a big idea. you could hook up micro.blog and i’d love to hook up wordland.

@manton Ah, right, I didn’t think of that. Yes, it’s a great list! I’ve contributed with a few of the ones included. 😊

@dave Just brainstorming here: what if there was a blog posting API (MetaWeblog or Micropub) that had a special “email” destination? Then blog-like clients could be easily wired up to it.

@jasonekratz I like that he’s presenting it as ”I” instead of ”we” as many solopreneurs tend to do.

@manton — interesting way to look at it. Then mail is a feed reader. And that’s how many feed readers seem to view feeds. Each feed is a mailbox and a mail source. I tgink activitypub even uses that nomenclature.
