I’ve had kimberlyhirsh.com for fifteen years today. I had other domains before that. I’m really glad I claimed this one. It’s been great for me both personally and professionally.

@KimberlyHirsh I bought FirstNameLastName.com for my son when he was born. On this weekend, we set up his custom email address (hosted by iCloud) but linked to his custom domain. He gets to be cool in middle school and will be useful for the rest of his life.

@pratik yeah, my kid's name is common enough that .com isn't available. I'll have to think about whether to do .net or what.

@pratik Dug into it a bit & looks like it's "taken" by register.com who will sell it to me for $25/year so maybe I'll end up buying it from them and then transferring it to another registrar.

@pratik That is so cool. Works well when you have a short name. 😄 Also, good to know that you can use custom emails hosted on iCloud. Have to look into it.

@Parag It is pretty straightforward. I use Fastmail for mine, so I was trying out iCloud for the first time, and it couldn't be simpler to set up and get going.
