I’m warming up to the idea of providing a daily/weekly digest of my posts to be delivered via email. I don’t want to undertake a huge project. I would prefer free options till I get comfortable. It should be a simple solution - RSS + email delivery, someway - right?

@amit I’m also interested in this! Would love to hear which solutions you’ve found so far.

@cygnoir @amit Please, get a look at Mailbrew (yes, not free, I know, but... so cool), I made one brew which does exactly this: a summary of all my posts (blog, micro.blog, RSS feeds, etc.). It's done automatically, one a week. share.mailbrew.com/apple_obs...

@cygnoir I see many "solutions" to achive rss to email - would have loved to hear which one works best and is being used by someone. I don't think many do this outside of their regular posting workflow, may be?

I believe @colinwalker has a system of sorts in place to achive this. And Dave Winer. That's amongst the people I follow.

@numericcitizen Mailbrew looks nice, but everytime I try it, it looks too feature rich to achive the simple flow that I'm after. Maybe I need to give it a trial before I make my mind. Thank you! 👍🏼

@cygnoir This option from MailChimp promises to be what I want. I'll try this out first.

@cygnoir I've got a working system in place with MailChimp -- time to see how it works. I wish the whole setup was simpler (there's so much cruft in there), but at least it seems to work.

@amit Is this available on their free plan? I post so infrequently I’m pondering the feasibility of an additional expense.

@cygnoir Same here, didn't want to spend an additional dime. With MailChimp, it is possible. There are limits, but I think they are not too restrictive.

@amit Back in my consulting days I used Mailchimp that way. “Friday Blog Delivery” It worked well! I sent my digest at noon so people could read leadership development posts on their lunch break.

These days, I’d probably encourage them to not work on their lunch break. ☺️

@Cheri Hah! It won't even work now, very few read over lunch any more. Most just...scroll I guess!?

@amit I used MailChimp for years when I ran an Outrigger canoe paddling association. I sent out weekly race updates for that week’s event. Location, parking, race direction/course, weather, warnings, surf forecast and any other info. It went out 6am Friday for a Saturday event. It had a high open rate and was well received.

@hawaiiboy Nice, thank you! I think there are many people who have already used MailChimp for email campaigns. It has been famous way before today's newsletters, I guess.

@amit How's this working for you so far? I am stuck at the step where MailChimp requires a physical address. I don't have a post office box and don't want my home address out in the world.

@cygnoir I guess you don’t have a lot of options, since the physical address is a legal requirement and not something MailChimp de died to require.

@jeroensangers Yes, I'm clear on that.

@cygnoir I've provided some basic information, and have removed that from footer of the email template so it doesn't get displayed. I don't see the addresses on many personal newsletters.

Btw the flow seems to be working - a sample issue. It's not exactly how I wanted it to be (for example order of the posts). But apparently no available solutions allow that.

@amit @cygnoir

I do a daily update using the MailChimp RSS feature this way, though I will probably switch to weekly soon. I use my university address for now. I've seen people use simply city and state or geographic region instead of a full address. That might be about editing the footer, not sure.

@kimberlyhirsh Thanks for the input; that's helpful. I don't have enough content to warrant daily, or even weekly, for that matter. I wonder if I could do monthly.

@cygnoir You can choose your frequency and it will skip sending it out if there's nothing new to send.

@amit @kimberlyhirsh After a while of staring at MailChimp, I don't think I have the mental fortitude to set it all up right now. But I did find Feedrabbit so I'll be posting a link to that on my site!

@cygnoir Nice, tried the option yesterday. Looks really good - at least solves the problem of myself. I will continue to explore the MailChimp option, not sure why any more though.

@cygnoir I love how FeedRabbit sends the digest. I have decided to give up on MailChimp efforts - it never worked the way I wanted. I don't even want to provide the digest option anymore. It's only for me now.
