@manton I notice that the Open Graph setting is rarely working. To be specific, the main place that I notice this is on Mastodon. I think that I have seen it appear once for my posts since you introduced this feature. Under Design I have selected the mnml Open Graph place holder that @jim created for the mnml theme. But 99% of the time I am seeing the generic Mastodon/Ivory place holder.

@crossingthethreshold Thanks. So I just checked a random recent post of yours and I do see the card — s3.amazonaws.com/micro.blog/opengraph/2025/12/16/5672457.png — so my guess is that it’s a timing thing, where the post is appearing on Mastodon before the card has been generated, and Mastodon doesn’t look again. Let me see if I can pin this down.

@manton Thank you for following up on this. @jim wondered if it was a timing thing. I was prompted to ask as I noticed one of Jim’s posts displaying the Open Graph image, and I see them in the RSS feeds for your posts in Unread, but I have not seen them for my posts for a while.

@crossingthethreshold By the way, is this for cross-posting to Mastodon or for the fediverse where people can follow your Micro.blog account directly? For cross-posting, Micro.blog waits until the Open Graph cards are generated before sending the post, but for the fediverse I don’t think that happens.

@manton It is for cross-posting to the fediverse. Maybe I need to adopt the latter?

@crossingthethreshold Not necessarily. Both approaches are good in different ways. I’m going to see if I can fix this to avoid federating to Mastodon until the cards are generated. I think it should be straightforward.
